PERRY, Jan. 20. M. A. Rosin, 45, attorney for the City of Sarasota and the State Livestock Sanitary Board, and his legal associate, Joseph Alexander, Jr., 32, Palmetto, were killed early today when their automobile collided head on with a big furniture van about 20 miles south of here on U. S. 19.
Taylor County Sheriff Maurice Linton said their car apparently swung out into the path of the oncoming truck while attempting to pass another automobile. Rosin and Alexander were killed instantly. Alexander was believed to have been driving.
The truck drivers, Marion Lloyd, and his helper, Marvin Hendrix, both of Red Level, Ala., escaped with minor hurts.
Vehicles Demolished
Both the automobile and the truck were demolished. The accident occurred this morning about 2:30 o'clock. Rosin and Alexander were en route to Tallahassee where they were scheduled to argue a case before the State Supreme Court today.
Rosin had made his home at Sarasota about two years and became city attorney the first of the year. He previously had lived at Arcadia where he had been city attorney. He also had served as attorney for Hardee and DeSoto Counties.
He was prominent in fraternal circles, being chairman of the Elks' new lodges committee and a former president of the Florida Elks Association.
Was Cattleman
He owned considerable property, including a cattle ranch. Rosin was a classmate at the University of Florida of Alfred McKethan, road board chairman under the Warren administration. Rosin was prominently connected with the Warren forces.
Rosin had attended a Sarasota city commission meeting Monday night.
Alexander, who was graduated from the University of Florida's law school in 1952, had served as acting prosecutor of Sarasota.
Rosin is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elsie Rosin; four sons, Robert P., 19, Alexander P., 17, Simon. 10, and Louis Michael Rosin, 2; and his father, Simon.
Alexander is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rose Marie Alexander, and two daughters, Karen Lynn, 9, and Charlene Victoria Alexander, 6: a brother, Johnny Alexander, Canal Zone; two sisters, Mrs. Mary McGough, Gloucester, Mass., and Mrs. Lucy St. Pierre, New Bedford, Mass.; his mother, Mrs. Mary E. Fernandez, and stepfather, William J. Fernandez. |
