| Note | There is some discrepancy on the year of birth.
According to the tombstone, the year of birth was 1889, however, for various reasons, this is most likely incorrect.
According to the Draft Registration Card dated 9/12/1918 for Samuel D. Malinow at 1137 E. Lombard Street, it lists his age as 37 and the date of birth as April 15, 1883. If in fact he was born on in 1883, then his age should be 35. If he was 37, then the birthdate would be 1881.
The 1920 Census which is dated Jan 7, 1920 says he was 38 years old on his last birthday, which means he would turn 39 on April 15, 1920, thereby making his birthdate 1881.
The 1930 Census, dated April 14, 1930, says he was 50 years old on his last birthday, which means he would turn 51 on April 15 and his birthdate would be 1879, or if, due to the 1 day until his official birthday he was actually 49 on his last birthday, then the birthdate would be 1880.
As the 1920 and 1930 Census indicate the birthdate as 1880 or 1881, and the draft registration concurs with 1881 as well, I have chosen to use 1881 as the date of birth. In addition, the first child was born in 1904, making it highly unlikely that he was born in 1889. |
