BURTON SCHWARTZ DENTIST AND PROFESSOR, 69 Burton Schwartz, 69, of Penn Valley, a Norristown dentist and assistant professor at Temple University, died of cancer Tuesday at his home in Narberth. Dr. Schwartz, a 1951 graduate of Temple University's dental school, maintained a practice in Norristown for 42 years. Since 1955, he was chairman of the department of dentistry at Suburban General Hospital in East Norriton Township. At Temple, he was a clinical assistant professor of dentistry. Dr. Schwartz was past chairman of the Norristown Allied Jewish Appeal and past vice president of the Norristown Jewish Community Center. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Markoff Schwartz; three daughters, Bunnie R. Piltch, Cynthia I. Litwinoff and Sallie M.; and six grandchildren. Services were held yesterday.

SCHWARTZ DR. BURTON SCHWARTZ, 69, of Penn Vallev, died March 4, 1997, of a rare form of cancer. Schwartz, originally from the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia, had maintained a dental practice in Norristown for 42 years. A clinical assistant professor at Temple University, Schwartz was an innovator in the field of dentistry. He specialized in the development of methods to reduce patients' fear of going to the dentist. "Burt was always dedicated to the betterment of his profession and the comfort of his patients", said Elaine, his wife of 49 years. "Everyone is always afraid of going to the dentist. He always strived to learn new things In the field that would give his patients greater comfort and confidence." His service to the Academy of General Dentistry was extensive. From 1985-86 Schwartz was President of me AGD. He served on the Academy's Board of Directors for more than 16 years and also served as Secretary and Treasurer. Since 1955 Schwartz was the Chairman of the Department of Dentistry at Suburban General Hospital in Norristown where he directed the Dental Clinic and the General Dentistry Residency Program. Upon graduation from Temple University's School of Dentistry in 1951 he was awarded membership in the Frederick James Honor Society of Clinical Oral Pathology. In 1967 Schwartz was granted a Fellowship from the AGD which required more than 500 continuing education units for acceptance and received a Fellowship from the International College of Dentists in 1974. He was active in the Jewish community, serving as past chairman of the Norristown Allied Jewish Appeal and past vice-president of the Norristown Jewish Community Center. In addition, he was involved in community organizations and served as presidnet of the Plymouth Township Lions Club, vice-president of the Powell Street Civic Association and chairman of the Boy Scout troop committee. Schwartz was also a 32-degree Mason of the Valley of Lehigh. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 daughters, Bunnie R., wife of Sanford J. Piltch of AHentown, Cynthia I. Schwartz, wife of Philip Litwinoff of West Orange, NJ, and Sallie M.; brother of Dr. Gerson Schwartz, loving Zaidie of Alexandra Joan, Jaclyn Vale, Evelyn Malka, Sharon Aviva, Abigail Mira, and Raymond J. Relatives and friends are invited to Services Fri. 11 A.M. Har Zion Temple, Hagysford at Hollow Rds., Penn Vallev. Int. Montefiore Cem.
