Source | Family Tree - Will Ogburn for Silverman/Buckner Family Publication: Family Tree Dated February 2002 Text: Miriam's death certificate states: place of death and residence: 3312 Evergreen Terrace [Baltimore]; at residence 4 years; date of death Dec. 17, 1910 at age 90; widowed; born 1820 in "Russia-Poland"; father Aaron Silverman, born in Poland; Maiden name of mother Dora Gropan, born in Poland; informant: Harris Silverman, 3312 Evergreen; place of burial Hebrew [unclear] Washington Rd Cem. Lewis, undertaker. Although Miriam's maiden name was Silverman, and she married a Silverman, it is not known whether they were cousins.
Death certificate for Harris Silverman identifies maiden name of his mother, but it is illegible, and place of her birth as Poland. Yetta Silverman Rudo's death certificate identifies her father as Solomon Silverman, born in Russia, and her mother as Miriam, also born in Russia.
At United Hebrew Cemetery, records (Count 1390) show both Solomon and Miriam buried in the oldest section of the Cemetery, in the old Eden Section, or Aitz Chaim, first row along the road for Solomon and second row back for Miriam. (JC: Akery.) [Aitz Chaim was the name of an old Polish congregation, also know as the Prushnitz synagogue. (WPO. See Harris Silverman, below.) The cemetery attendant expected that an old unreadable stone existed for Solomon and the stone for Miriam no longer existed attendant. Several pass throughs, and we found nothing. On one last try I found a very old stone with "Solomon" on it, and right behind was a stone for "Miriam Silverman." The stones were mostly in Hebrew, and as it was wet I could not get a rubbing to have translated. For future reference, Solomon and Miriam are buried half way up the center road, on the left; Solomon is right under an old hemlock, one of the few trees any where, and one of the oldest stones in the cemetery, but on a newer marble base provided in 1939 by Arnold Silverman. Miriam's is a newer and darker stone. Directly across the road is a large family TRAUB stone.
In 1900, Miriam is a widow living with her son Harris and his family. She is 84 years old, born November 1815 in "Poland (Russ)" and immigrated in 1882. She can not read, write, nor speak English. She had 7 children, of whom 5 are then alive: Harris, Solomon, Moses, Yetta and Fanny (we don't know about Simon. [Actually the 5 is crossed out and replaced with a one, and while she is living with one child we know five are then living. Similarly, Rebecca is recorded as having 8 eight children living, but the 8 is crossed out and replaced with seven, and while she is living with seven of her children, we know she has eight children alive at the time. Similarly still, Fanny is shown as having 4 children then alive, but the four is crossed out and replaced with a zero, even though we know she more than zero children then alive.]
Shirleigh and Barney Silverman remember Miriam as a very old lady who would be lying on the couch, needing not to be disturbed. AS (w/CSG). Note: Research indicates address as 3312 Auchentoroly Terrace, not Evergreen Terrace. |
