Source | Family Tree - Will Ogburn for Silverman/Buckner Family Publication: Family Tree Dated February 2002 Text: It is clear from talking to other members of the family, that only his immediate family knew him as Barney. For example, Madeline, Ed, and Gloria, first cousins, never knew that he was called Barney.
Barney was born the year of the great Baltimore fire. SS. Information about his death and wife provided by BS. His birth year provided by several sources, but the precise date is from SSDI. Arlington Cemetery, also known as Chizak Amuno Cemetery, is also where Arnold's mother and father Louis are buried. According to his cousin, Arnold arranged for the permanent care of Silverman graves at United Hebrew Cemetery. MGR.
First cousin Donald Little wrote, on March 29, 1996: "I was very close to Arnold. He lived at our house when he attended the University of Pittsburgh for a spell and that was in the early 1920s and Arnold and I were close until he passed away." Madeline Goldie Rubenstein told me that Arnold paid for perpetual care at the cemetery for everyone, that was like Arnold; he took care of and charge of everything. He was very successful, and everyone looked up to him. He also had a fortune, and when he died he left money to Bert and Donald. MGR, WPO.
Another cousin, Madeline Rubenstein, recalled that Peggy was the secretary in Arnold's law office when she, Madeline, worked there in the summer when Madeline was about twenty; they would sometimes have lunch together. Once, when she went to a [Jerry] Lewis & [Dean] Martin show, she saw Arnold and Peggy there together. The next day, he called his mother, acknowledged that Madeline had seen them together at the show, and confessed that Peggy was going to get a divorce and they were going to marry. They did. Eventually Peggy converted to Judaism, and "did it up big." In fact she even complained that lobster was served at my (WPO) wedding to Lucy. Peggy was an organizer and active in several groups; she was also a complainer and stayed away from everybody. MGR. In my own experience, Peggy had nothing to do with Shirleigh Silverman or his family. - WPO.
Barney and Peggy had no children |
