Source | Family Tree - Will Ogburn for Silverman/Buckner Family Publication: Family Tree Dated February 2002 Text: SS; LSO; AS. Moses had no children. No vital statistics are provided.
Inexplicably, two birth certificates seem to exist for Moses Silverman. The first certificate (A-59155), filed on October 26, 1882, records the birth of a male child, the parents' third, on October 26th at either number 10 or number 70 [actually, the number is hard to decipher] Harrison Street. The mother is identified as Rebecca Buckner Silverman, born in Europe, and the father is identified simply as H. Silverman, a shoemaker, born in Europe. A second certificate (A-59909) is recorded on November 29, 1882 under the name of H. and Bettie Silverman. The contents of this certificate has not been checked, but the November date corresponds with the census of 1900.
According to the 1900 census, Moses was born November 1882 in Maryland, living with his parents, and is a student. He also is listed in the 1905 City Directory for Baltimore as "mngr, Harris Ssilverman, h 1519 McCulloh." That address is the address for his father Harris and brothers "Lewis" and Aaron.
According to Barney, Moses was in the family clothing business all his life, and in fact it was when Mose got sick that the business ultimately closed. AS. Madeline Goldie Rubenstein, a granddaughter of Harris and Rebecca and niece to Moses, remembers that they all lived together in a big old house. "Mose" had TB, and was supposedly cured at a sanitorium, but the family always told Madeline to be quiet and careful around Mose. He had his own room, filled with newspapers stacked to the ceiling. MGR. Ed Silverman, another grandchild who lived in the house, said that Mose never saw anyone: he lived on the second floor in a back bedroom off limits to all the children in the house, and for meals would come down to the kitchen by the backstairs for breakfast and dinner after everyone else had finished eating. ES.
(Additional note by Steve Markow - tombstone for Moses is together with Aaron (his brother) and Anna (Aaron's wife), so the birth and death date from the tombstone are used here as the most accurate. The November 1882 date also corresponds to the 1900 Census. |
