The Markow Family Tree

The family lived in Pittsburg. Rose and Morris had two daughters, Florence and Sylvia. SS; LSO; AS. The 1900 census gives month and date of birth, and indicates "Rosa" is a student. Her birth certificate, recorded under the names Henry and Rebecca Silverman, gives the full date of birth as January 29, 1885, at 94 Harrison Street. This birth was unusual among all the birth certificates I have checked in that it was attended by a physician, Daniel Moyer of 192 Aisquith Street. The mother is ecorded as Rebecca Buckner Silverman born in Poland, and the father as Henry Silverman, a "Shoe Dealer" also born in Poland. According to Barney, Morris was a haberdasher, first in Baltimore, then in Norfolk, and then in Homestead, PA. Rose was a very good pianist. AS. Ed Silverman remembers that Rose and Morris Snydman often visited Baltimore: "they were sweethearts." They lived in Harrisburg a while before moving to Pittsburgh. ES. That so many in the family ended up in Pittsburgh is attributed by Madeline Goldie Rubenstein to Rose, or her sister Celia. One or the other visited Pittsburgh and fell in love an married. The others girls visited, met their husbands their too. Taube , the youngest, was the last to go. MGR. Rose was always entering contests with her recipes, and winning, according to a family recollection. Her whole house was filled with prizes. MGR.
