Evelyn M. Wieland, a retired administrative assistant and arts patron, died in her sleep Saturday at a nursing home in Princeton, N.J., She was 91. The former Homewood resident, who had lived in the Broadview Apartments from 1968 until last year, was born Evelyn Myerberg in Baltimore, the daughter of a shoemaker. Raised on Auchentoroly Terrace, across from Druid Hill Park, she was a 1928 graduate of Western High School. She studied economics at the Johns Hopkins University while taking business courses at Strayer Business College, from which she graduated in the early 1930s. She worked at the law firm of Semmes, Bowen & Semmes; from the late 1950s to the mid-1960s, she was an administrative assistant at the Maryland procurement office. Mrs. Wieland converted from Judaism and became a member of the First Church of Christian Science on West University Parkway. Her philanthropic interests included the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore Museum of Art, Second Presbyterian Church Concert Series, Friends of the Enoch Pratt Free Library and Maryland Bible Society. She enjoyed needlepoint, art and music, and she was an accomplished Scrabble player. Her husband of nearly four decades, clothing salesman Henry Wieland Sr., died in 1980. Mrs. Wieland donated her body, and no funeral is planned. Survivors include a son, Henry Wieland Jr. of Silver Spring; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
