Dr. Phyllis Hurwitz Duvdevani, of Leonia, NJ, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 1993 at St Mary Hospital in Hoboken, NJ at age 51 of cancer. Dr. Duvdevani was the daughter of Rabbi Jacob Hurwitz, Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Israel and the late Ruth Hurwitz. Surviving also are her husband, Dr. Ilan Duvdevani and daughters, Yael and Tamar of Leonia, NJ; her sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Dr. Steven Rothmel and their sons, Joshua and Benjamin, Chesterfield, MO. Dr. Phyllis Duvdevani was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School, Barnard College and Yale University Medical School. She specialized in' Internal Medicine and practiced in Hoboken, NJ.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 6 at 2 p.m. at Temple Israel with Rabbi Mark Raphael, Spiritual Leader of Temple Israel officiating. Burial will be in Temple Israel Riverside Cemetery, Conklin. There will be no calling hours. Shiva will be observed at the home of Rabbi Jacob Hurwitz, 64 Aldrich Ave., Binghamton. Dr. Phyllis Judith Hurwitz of New York City and Ilan J. Duvdevanti of Israel were united in marriage yesterday in Temple Israel of Binghamton.
Rabbi Jacob Hurwitz, father of the bride, officiated at the single-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Rabbi and Mrs. Jacob Hurwitz of 64 Aldrich Avenue, Binghamton. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Duvdevanti of Tel Aviv, Israel, are the parents of the bridegroom.
Given in marriage by her father under a canopy decorated with greenery and arrangements of white chrysanthemums and rhodadendrons, the bride wore a gown of ivory silk gros de londre fashioned with a natural waistline, full skirt and bell sleeves of English net enhanced with floral appliques of matching ivory silk.
A matching floral headpiece, accented with seed pearls, held her cloud veil of Delmar Studio of French illusion. The bride carried a cascade of white orchids and stephanotis intermingled with ivy over her sister's confirmation prayer book.
Miss Sharon Joy Hurwitz was maid of honor for her sister. She was attired in a floral brocade coat and dress ensemble of pale aqua. The sleeveless dress of Empire design featured a square neckline and narrow straps, complemented with a full-length coat of A-line style.
She wore an illusion bow headpiece and carried a cascade of variegated pink sweetheart roses and ivy.
Joseph Rosenberg, uncle of the bride, was best man.
A dinner reception was held in the home of the bride's parents. Temple Israel will be the setting Saturday Aug. 30, for a reception for friends and relatives.
The bride was graduated from Barnard College, New York, with a B.A. degree in zoology.
She received an M. D. degree from Yale Medical School, New Haven, Conn., and served her internship at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center. The former Dr. Hurwitz completed her residency in internal medicine at Manhattan Veteran's Administration Hospital and studied haemotalogy under a fellowship at Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York City.
Mr. Duvdevanti graduated from Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel, with a B.S. degree in chemical engineering. He received a M.S. degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, N.J., where he is a candidate for a Ph.D. in chemical engineering.
The couple will live in New Jersey upon returning from a wedding trip to Israel. |
