Born Leopold Nochumowitz in Russia; family stories tell of Leopold's journey to escape the czar's conscription by fleeing to Germany and ultimately arriving in America in the late 1880s during which time he changed his name to Jacobson; married Ada Estermann 8 Sep 1890 in Baltimore MD; they lived in Baltimore for almost 10 years, arriving in New Jersey just before 1900; they had 8 children, 6 of whom survived to adulthood; their youngest daughter, Edna Roslyn, was married on their 50th wedding anniversary; Leopold was a varnisher, cabinet maker, and proprietor of a furniture store, and was a founding member of Ahavas Sholom Temple in Newark NJ
