Lt. Col. Labon Backer and Bride Leave for Honeymoon in Cuba

Miss Morrison To Marrv Lt. Col. Backer on Jan. 24 Of wide social interest is the announcement made today by Dr. and Mrs. Thaddeus Morrison Sr. of the engagement of their daughter. Miss Clara Morrison, to Lt. Col. Labon Backer, Signal Corps, AUS, of Richmond, Va. Plans for the marriage of the young couple, which takes place on Jan. 24, will be announced later. The lovely brunet bride-elect, who received her master's degree from Emory University, recently received her honorable discharge as a lieutenant from the WAC at Fort Bragg. She served for two and a half years, having spent 18 months in Australia, New Guinea, Dutch New Guinea and Manila. Miss Morrison is a sister of Mrs. Max Blumberg, the former Miss Margaret Morrison, and Dr. Thad Morrison Jr., USN, now with the Dental Corps at Cherry Point, N. C. The bride-elects father is well known in medical circles as an orthodontist. Mrs. Morrison, mother of the bride-elect, is the former Miss Louise Read, and is a past president of the Atlanta Music Club. Col. Backer is an electrical engineer, and was graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He served as assistant commandant and commandant of the Signal Corps Training School at Oro Bay and Manila for over two years, and expects to receive his discharge at an early date.

BACKER Clara Morrison Backer, 84 died January 4, 1998. Formerly of Atlanta, Georgia, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Thad Morrison, Sr. Survivors include Dr. Thad Morrison, Jr. of Atlanta; husband, Labon, son, David, daughter, Ellen Edwards and three grandchildren.
