I.H. (Larry) Madalia, 51, of 2530 Forest Dr., president of Crest Stores, died suddenly about 11 p.m. yesterday while attending a Civitan state convention in Statesville.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p m at Harry & Bryant Chapel in The Oaks. Rabbi C. Melvyn Helfgott of Temple Beth-El will officiate, and burial will be in Hebrew Cemetery here.
Mr. Madalia was at a social function of the Civitan convention at the Vance Hotel in Statesville. He suffered a heart attack and death was immediate. He was accompanied to the convention by his wife.
He was president of the Charlotte Civitan Club.
MICHIGAN NATIVE
Mr. Madalia was born Feb 14, 1903, in Escanaba, Mich., the son of Jennie and Nathan Madalia. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan where he received a masters degree in social work.
Headquarters of Crest Stores, of which he was president, are located in Charlotte.
Mr. Madalia was also president of the Jewish Federation of Charities, past president of Temple Bethe-El, and past state chairman of B'nai B'rith. He was a member of Tau Epsilon Phi, college social fraternity.
Mr. Madalia is survived by his wife, the former Miss Irene Nachamson; a daughter, Norma Madalia of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich.; a son, Jimmy Madalia of the home; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Safur of Miami Beach, Fla.; and three brothers, Alex Madalia of Milwaukee, Wis., Max Madalia of Chicago, Ill, and Ben Madalia of Escanaba.
The body will remain at Harry & Bryant Chapel in the Oaks until the hour of the service. |
