Jacob H. Malenovsky, of 2845 Chew St., Allentown, one of the organizers of the Sheftel & Malenovsky Textile Waste Co., Allentown, died yesterday at his home following a long illness,
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Elias and Hinda (Lebovsky) Malenovsky.
He retired seven years ago.
Malenovsky was a member of Temple Beth-El and several Jewish organizations.
Surviving are his widow Lillian R. (Flax) Malenovsky; three daughters, Shirley wife of Bernhard Halperin Rose M., wife of Dr. Joseph Goldstone and Pearle E., wife of Harold Block, all of Allentown; a son, Robert at home; a brother, Abraham of Allentown; a sister, Sarah, wife of Abraham Sheftel of Allentown, and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Bachman Funeral Home, 1030 Walnut St., Allentown. |

Lillian R. Malenovsky, 96, of Allentown, died Monday in her home. She was the wife of the late Jacob H. Malenovsky.
A graduate of the former Vermont Normal School, she was a schoolteacher in Burlington, Vt., many years ago.
Born in Burlington, she was a daughter of the late Rev. William and Millie (Rosenberg) Flax.
She was a member of Temple Beth El, Allentown, and a former secretary of its Sisterhood.
Survivors: Daughters, Shirley, wife of Harry Berman, Rose Goldstone, and Pearle, wife of Harold Block, all of Allentown; son Robert of Macungie; sister, Helen Furie of Delray Beach, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. today in the synagogue. Arrangements, Bachman Funeral Home, Allentown. |

Rabbi William Greenburg and Cantor Rubin Sherer of Temple Beth FJ, Allentown, officiated at the service. Mrs. ? Morris Mayer sang nuptial selections and also was pianist.
The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. Joseph Goldstone of Slatington as matron of honor. Her niece, Brinda Rhea Goldstone, was flower girl and a-nephew, Bill Hart Halperin, carried the rings.
Jerome Block was his brother's best man.
After their return from a two-week trip to Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Block will reside at 818 North 28th St., Allentown.
The former Miss Malenovsky, an honor graduate of Allentown High School, was graduated in 1951 from Cedar Crest College. She has been employed as bookkeeper and secretary to the executive director of the Lehigh County Chapter of American Red Cross.
Mr. Block attended the University of Scranton and was graduated from Kutztown State Teachers College in 1950. He served for two and one-half years with the Navy Seabees. He is employed as assistant credit manager by Hess Bros., Allentown. |

Harold "Hal Block, 81, of Allentown, died Nov. 5, 2007 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He established the Block Insurance Agency Inc., Allentown, in 1952 and served as its president until 1990. The agency is now in its 55th year of business. Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late Samuel and Sadie (Helman) Block. He was the husband of the late Pearle E. (Malenovsky) Block, who died Jan. 29, 2006. A Navy veteran of World War II, Hal was assigned to the 32nd Special Naval Construction Battalion. He participated in the liberation of Samar, Philippine Islands and Tsingtao, China. He then served in the Naval Reserves, from 1946 to 1954. It was during that time Hal attended the University of Scranton and then graduated from Kutztown University. He was a life member of the Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. and was a member of the Lehigh Valley Post 239, Jewish War Veterans, Allentown, where he served as post commander, from 1963 to 1965 and 1971 to 1974. He was presently serving as the post quartermaster since 1982. He was president of the United Veterans of Wars, Allentown chapter in 1968. He was department commander at the department of Pennsylvania Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. in 1975. He was national chief of staff of Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. and national action chairman from 1989 to 1992. He became a charter member of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home advisory council in 1980 and was elected in 1986 as its president and served in that position until 2003, at which time he was inducted into the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home "Hall of Fame". Mr. Block served as president of the South Whitehall Authority, from 1964 to 1969. He was an active member of Temple Beth El, Allentown and Both Greenleaf Masonic Lodge 561 and Lehigh Consistory, Allentown. He was a member of the Rajah Shrine, Reading.
Survivors: Sons, Ranee and his wife, Sheryl, Ellis and his wife, Lisa and Glenn and his wife, Melisa, all of Allentown; daughter, Jana, wife of Bobby Baker, of Hblden, Mass.; brother, Jerome and his wife, Loretta, of Whitehall; 12 grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Temple Beth El, 1305 Springhouse Road, Allentown. Interment will be in Beth El Memorial Park, Whitehall. Arrangements by Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, Allentown.

She was secretary to the executive director of the Red Cross, Allentown, before retiring and becoming a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Jacob H. and Lillian R, (Flax) Malenovsky. She graduated from Allentown High School in 1946 and from Cedar Crest College in 1950. She was a member of Temple Beth El, Allentown, and served as financial secretary of its Sisterhood, where she was a life member. She was a life member of Hadassah and a member of the Lehigh Valley Post 235 Jewish War veterans Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors: Husband; sons, Rance and his wife Sheryl, Ellis and his wife Lisa, Glenn and his wife Melisa; daughter, Jana R. Baker and her husband Bobby; sisters, Shirley Berman, Rose Goldstone; brother, Robert Malenovsky; 12 grandchildren.
