Raphael G. Scobey of New York, and two grandchildren.
Scoblionko, who used his initials E. G., graduated from Lehigh University in 1931 and received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1934. While there, he was an editor of the university's Law Review. In later years he was elected a trustee of the university's law school.
A busy trial lawyer who conducted a general practice, Scoblionko was an authority on the Social Security laws and lectured on them. He was involved in several of the largest suits heard in Lehigh County Court.
Scoblionko devoted many volunteer hours to his faith and the welfare of the Jewish people at home and abroad. In May of last year, Scoblionko was honored by the United Synagogues on the 10th anniversary of his election to the presidency of the world council. Also recognized was his long and dedicated service to the Conservative Judaism movement.
In 1960, a total of 800 members and friends of Temple Beth El gave Scoblionko a testimonial in appreciation of his leadership.
In 1961, he was chairman of the biennial convention of the United Synagogues of America. He represented Beth El at a conclave in Israel in 1962. In addition, he was the first secretary of the constitutional convention of the world council.

He was a former counsel for the Lehigh Valley Needle Trades Association and was solicitor for the Lehigh County Industrial Development Corp. (IDC).
A jaunty man of slight build, Scoblionko was exceptionally neat about his work and appearance, and he often sported those large butterfly bowties worn by the younger lawyers in town. Among his colleagues he was known as a man with a tremendous capacity for work that he processed rapidly.
He was a member of the American and Pennsylvania bar associations and of the American Trial Lawyers' Association.
Scoblionko was a former member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's house of delegates, and a former member of the board of managers, University of Pennsylvania Law School Alumni Association.

Sharing his wife's interest in the performing arts, Scoblionko was a former trustee of the Memorial Foundation of Jewish Culture.
Scoblionko was active in the Legal Services Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He was elected president of the county bar association in 1967. In that same year, he was named vice president of United Synagogues, an office he held until his death.

At the tribute paid to him in May, Rabbi Emeritus William Greenburg of Beth El described Scoblionko as "a friend, an attorney, president of Temple Beth EI, chairman of the board and building committee. He brought honor, credit and dignity to himself, Jus family, his community and to the Conservative Judaism movement."
Responding to accolades given him at that United Synagogues regional conference, Scoblionko challenged the leaders of the conference workshops "to pursue your efforts in the spirit of the early founders of Conservative Judaism, and try to merge and harmonize the traditional and the beauty of new life." |
