1440455 Leading Aircraftman. Royal Air Force. 140 Wing Age 23 years Part of a four man crew and nineteen RAF personnel, that took off from RAF Thorney Island, West Sussex, at 10:00 hrs on Tuesday 6th February, 1945, in a Douglas C47 – Dakota III – S/No. KG630 for a transfer of freight and personnel to Brussels, Belgium. After take off the weather, deteriorated badly and the aircraft flew into low cloud and 30 minutes into the flight they crashed into a hill at Folkington, Sussex, England, there were no survivors.
