ALTERMAN, NORMA EDITH Norma Edith Alterman of Mt. Vernon died August 21, 1999 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. She was born October 2, 1927 in the Bronx to Harry and Augusta Mendlowitz. A graduate of New York City's Hunter College, she married Arthur Alterman of Brooklyn in 1949. They had two sons, Barry and Bruce. Norma lived in Mt. Vernon since 1961, and began working for the City of Mt. Vernon as Deputy Registrar in 1965. Four years later she began working in the City Court and was the Principal Office Assistant supervising the Civil Court and in charge of Small Claims at the time of her death. Norma loved all the arts, especially dance and music. She is survived by her husband Arthur, her sons Barry and Bruce, her daughter-in-law Dawn, and Bruce and Dawn's children, her beloved grandchildren, Tyler and Chelsea. A Memorial Gathering to celebrate Norma's life will be held Thursday, September 2, 4:30 to 7:30pm (Celebration begins at 5pm), at the Elks Lodge, 40 Oakley Avenue, Mt. Vernon.
